What is the difference between Certification and Non-Certification courses?

Certification courses are larger courses intended to certify a veterinary professional in a specific topic. Some of them require a hand-on in-person component. For example Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians is a 90 hour certifying course which when completed results in the honorific cVMA (certified in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture). Non-Certification courses are short and designed as a review, introduction, or sample of some of the topics in the larger courses. They cannot be combined to create a Certification. All of the Certification Courses are RACE and NYSED approved.

What does RACE approved mean?

RACE-approved programs are reviewed under the American Association of Veterinary State Boards Registry of Approved Continuing Education standards; veterinary professionals should verify that the course satisfies the CE requirements of their individual licensing jurisdiction.

Do I get RACE credits if I’m not a vet?

No, RACE continuing education credits are for veterinary professionals only.

Are the courses approved in NY by NYSED?

Yes.

What if I’m not a vet?  Can I still take the course?

Anyone can take the non-certification courses. There are suggested prerequisites for some courses. Non-veterinary professionals will not receive RACE CE credit, but will be able to download a certificate of completion.

Can I practice on animals after I take these courses if I am not a veterinarian?

No, Veterinary professionals commit to practicing within the scope of veterinary licensure and applicable state, provincial, or national regulations.

How do I find the course I am looking for? What if I don’t know the name?

You can use the Search and Filter bars to find courses, i.e. RACE Approved.

What is included in the online course package?

How long do I have access to the courses?

You will have one year from the date of log in to the Litmos Learning Management System to complete the course. You will receive email reminders as your course time is about to expire.

Are there tests and/or quizzes/homework assignments?

There may be self-paced, repeatable multiple choice questions to reinforce key concepts. There may also be short reading assignments.

What will I receive upon completion of the course?

Upon completion of the course and subject to fulfillment of attendance and assessment requirements you will be able to download a certificate of accomplishment. This will be a RACE certificate of Continuing Education hours for RACE Approved courses for veterinary professionals.

How do I obtain the certificate?  Does it get mailed to me or emailed?

Once you complete the requirements  for your Non-certification course you will be able to download your CE certificate right from the Litmos LMS. Certification courses require an approved case report for certification and it will then be emailed to you as a downloadable attachment as well as sent in the mail for framing.
