This course is designed for veterinary medical acupuncturists who seek to expand the spectrum of acupuncture points they consider and implement in large animal acupuncture treatment protocols with the aim of achieving better and longer-lasting clinical results.
While many equine acupuncturists only treat horses on the neck and back, Dr. Tim Holt includes acupuncture points distal to the shoulder and hip, even down to the foot. When he does, he maintains vigilance regarding safety for himself and the horse. The neuromodulatory benefits of these sites arise from their rich somatic and autonomic innervation, as compared to more proximal points.
Dr. Mindy Story provides added information on ways to needle distal points safely.
